Philly Diner SOS

Today's Philadelphia Inquirer printed a review of the recently rescued and reopened Silk City Diner on Spring Garden Street in Philadelphia. Highly regarded (and very picky) reviewer Craig LeBan gave the diner two bells out of four, which most restaurants receive with great relief. To us, the article is most notable for its introductory paragraph. It's no secret that in recent years, the city's three most beloved diners have landed in the portfolio of Michael Petrogiannis, who owns another ten or so diners in the area. LeBan takes note of this as he begins the review: Who will save the great Philadelphia Diner? We've watched our classics wither over the last few years as, one by one, the Mayfair, Country Club, and Melrose were gobbled up like old croquettes into the maw of mediocrity that is the Michael's Diner chain. Before its sale, LeBan reviewed the Country Club and gave it three bells. To this, we can only add that about five years ago, we stopped in for breakfast at the Michael's Diner in Glenside, about a mile from our house. We haven't returned. If anyone has a recommendation for a GOOD breakfast in the northern suburbs between Philly city limits and Willow Grove, please send it along. And when we say good, we mean Deluxe Town Diner good or Miss Albany Diner good. .

    Another site upgrade

Visitors will notice some subtle changes to the site since Monday night. Because the upgrade and redesign that I implemented last November didn't go as smoothly as I had hoped, I opted to start from scratch instead. Two months later, the site looks pretty solid so far, and had the added bonus of a new, easier-to-use system for our Riding Shotgun bloggers.

We hope that you can now use the site without any further technical issues. If you do, by all means, write me immediately and let This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
