Road Island Diner Opens

image
Oakely, Utah -- It happens less than you might think or as much as we'd hope, but someone actually pulled it off. Keith Walker successfully moved, restored, and opened his vintage 1939 O'Mahony diner this week after about a years work and $1 million spent. A news article the Salt Lake Tribune tells all about the diner and Keith's ambitions for his new venture. The fact that the article gives passing mention where and how Keith found his diner, which still gives Dan's Diner Salvage far more credit than he deserves. Regular readers of RoadsideOnline will remember that soon after Keith took delivery of the former Tommy's Diner, he noticed that the cashier's station didn't come with the package. In a correspondence sent to Zilka and shared with Roadside, Keith wrote: "I've always given you the benefit of the doubt but now see that your detractors aren't entirely wrong. You do indeed take valuable items from diners that are for sale ( i.e Tommy's cash register station) in order to benefit your non-existent museum. I guess you do not value what good I can bring to your organization, and so I will not mention it herewith in the future newscasts/advertising of how this diner made it to Utah. Furthermore, as I go forward and am asked about your 'Museum' and integrity, I will comment with how our dealings have played out. It's a shame you cannot seem to be straight with those in the industry that are trying to make a difference." Also missing from the diner upon its arrival in Utah were its original exterior clock and builder's tags. As one reader so aptly put it, "Could Zilka please explain to us why someone supposedly charged with the mission of preserving diners continues to desecrate them like this?" Another site upgrade

Visitors will notice some subtle changes to the site since Monday night. Because the upgrade and redesign that I implemented last November didn't go as smoothly as I had hoped, I opted to start from scratch instead. Two months later, the site looks pretty solid so far, and had the added bonus of a new, easier-to-use system for our Riding Shotgun bloggers.

We hope that you can now use the site without any further technical issues. If you do, by all means, write me immediately and let This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
