Diner Demo Watch: Mom's Diner

Mom's Diner as it appeared in 2003.Mom's Diner as it appeared in 2003.The editor of the Woodbridge Patch called yesterday to ask for my opinions about the impending demolition of Mom's Diner on Route 1 in Woodbridge, New Jersey. It would seem that the diner's current owner Robert Chwatko has all-but-given up on his decade long attempt to sell his diner and has reached a deal with Wawa to turn the property into truck stop and convenience store.

We've had the diner listed since 2003 for $35,000 and have referred several people to Mr. Chwatko, but once again, we find ourselves with beautiful diner sitting at the tragic crossroads of greed and ignorance.

Meanwhile, according to Patch, Mr. Chwatko denies even owning the property despite the fact that his name is listed as such on Woodbridge's tax rolls. Moreover, the mayor has expressed little patience for the fact that one party has stepped forward to remove the diner from the site and take up to Massachusetts.

More as this unfolds, but I recommend that if you haven't done so already, you better get to Woodbridge and get your pictures now before it's too late.

More pix after the jump.
