Wawa to crash through Gateway
Today, I read that the Wawa convenience store chain plans to build another major store in West Norriton, Pennsylvania at a site currently occupied by the Gateway Diner. This exceedingly rare 1955 Fodero diner last operated in 2006 and closed after its owner died.
Since that time, I have made several inquiries about the status of the diner, which is in excellent condition (or at least it was when it closed), but received no replies.
Wawas are ubiquitous in this region. To my knowledge, they're on track to replace and demolish at least three 1950s diners since 2004, when they took over the site of the former Ingleside Diner in Thorndale, Pennsylvania.
Currently, it looks like they will also claim Mom's Diner in Woodbridge, New Jersey which is expected to be scraped from its site on Route 1 by January. Mom's, by the way, is practically a sister diner to the Gateway.
