Big money buys into Ozoner concept

Maybe it's a far cry from what we now understand as a classic drive-in theater, but just the fact that a mainstream theater chain wants to test the concept shows some real progress and hope for the future. 

Drive-in theater returns to Peoria; let's see how nostalgia plays

landmark drive inNews that the Landmark Cinemas will soon open a drive-in theater in Peoria is a reminder of the hold the drive-in still has on our culture.

The 1950s, of course, marked an era when outdoor cinemas flourished. Websites like driveins.com note that, when the industry was at its peak, almost 5,000 drive-ins were in operation across the country by 1958. Today, the website reports about 350 drive-ins are still running movies.
