Despite what everyone seems to think, New York, not New Jersey has the highest number of true, prefabricated diners. Thanks to the proximity of the New York metro area to the diner-building epicenter in northern New Jersey, New Yorks's five boroughs combined with all of Long Island almost by themselves outnumber the diners in all of New Jersey. Apologies to Peter Genovese, but New Jersey does not have anything close to the 600 diners he claims in his excellent book, New Jersey Diners.
As you can see, we still need to classify all those diners listed below not already placed in one of New York's distinct regions. When finished with this work, you will only see the regions listed when you come to this page.
