My Tin Man closes. Barbara Lind and daughter Susan Kettell evicted

Update — 4:46PM, May 7: This report contains several updates and corrections since its first posting earlier this moring. Since then, I spoke to Barbara at length about her situation and had several details filled in.

Barbara Lind poses with Roadside Girl in June, 2009. Barbara Lind poses in the Tin Man Diner with Roadside Girl in June, 2009.

I spoke with Barbara Lind last week, and she informed me then of her impending eviction from her diner, the Tin Man in North Falmouth, Massachusetts. Once again, I hadn’t heard from Barbara for an extended period of time and once again the phone numbers I had for her failed to work. After sending a letter to the diner, she finally called me after going to Wal-Mart and buying a pay-as-you-go phone.

Bobby’s Girl meets Common Man

New Hampton, New Hampshire — The Common Man has hooked up with Bobby’s Girl.

Bobby’s Girl Diner, a pristine Worcester lunch car — in fact the last built by the company — closed up last year after a run of more than four years under the management of Ron Elliard. Up for sale since then, an auction sale has put it under the Common Man umbrella and owner Alex Ray, owner of the New Hampshire based Common Man restaurant chain.

The Common Man restaurant chain already owns the Tilt’n Diner in Tilton, New Hampshire and the Airport Diner — a site-built structure — near the Manchester airport.

Bobby’s Girl first opened at this Route 104 location back in the mid-1990s after its purchase by Bob and Gloria Merrill and transport up from Long Island, where it was part of failed effort by Alexis Stewart to open it in Bridgehampton.

Diner Finder Changes

It’s a slog, but we keep at it.

The Diner Finder does now feature dozens of photographs. In the conversion from the old system to the new, we had no easy way of transferring all those images to the new database. As a result, we find ourselves manually re-uploading hundreds of images.

On a happier note, the new system does allow for individual photo albums of each each diner, and we’ve begun the process of including those.

If you’d like to help us, send us a note.
