Worcester, MA -- The Worcester Telegram & Gazette recently paid tribute to John Evangelista (pictured at left) for his fifty years behind the counter at the Parkway Diner in Worcester. Having lived in Worcester for seven years, I can second every kind word ever spoken about John, and so on behalf of us all at Roadside, I lift my Victor mug in tribute as well.
The story I most often tell about John and his diner comes from first exploring the city for a place to live. I learned more about Worcester over one soul-satisfying meatball sandwich than I did after a year's subscription to the Telegram.
The tiny diner was and still is one of the best places in the city for a good, basic Italian dinner and a real sense of the state of the neighborhoods. We wish John the best of luck and wish he could stick around another fifty.
