What is Roads and Rambles

Lord, I was born a ramblin’ man Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad Track

Trying to make a living and doing the best I can — Allman Brothers Band — 1974

Roads and Rambles will be an account of things I find of interest in the world of words, events and locations. Part roadside photo journal, historical reminiscence, vintage curiosities, and neon documentary. Roads and Rambles invites you to come along on a ramble taken just off the beaten path. A trip taken entirely for the pleasure of the road and the journeys associated with it.

Ramble {ram-buhl} verb-bled, –bling, noun

–verb (used without object)

1. to wander around in a leisurely, aimless manner: They rambled through the shops until closing time.

2. to take a course with many turns or windings, as a stream or path.

3. to grow in a random, unsystematic fashion The vine rambled over the walls and tree trunks.

4. to talk or write in a discursive, aimless way (usually followed by on): The speaker rambled on with anecdote after anecdote.

–verb (used with object)

5. to walk aimlessly or idly over or through: They spent the spring afternoon rambling woodland paths.

–noun

6. walk without a definite route, taken merely for pleasure.

Let’s see where this ramble will take us.
